JIDEL JUDO AT THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES!

One of the really special experiences for Jo and Anna was being lucky enough to attend the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and watch judo live. What an incredible opportunity to experience such a major sporting event right on our doorstep!

JudoScotland had 13 talented judoka selected to represent Scotland, competing against athletes from across the Commonwealth. It was fantastic to see Scottish judoka step onto the biggest stage and proudly represent their country.

One of those judoka was Daniel Pacitti, who has been a member of Jidel Judo since the age of just 7 years old. Seeing Daniel compete at the Commonwealth Games was a particularly proud moment for everyone connected with Jidel.

Daniel competed in the Men’s Under 73kg category, taking on some of the best judoka from across the Commonwealth. It was a fantastic opportunity for Daniel to showcase the skills, commitment and dedication he had developed throughout his judo journey

But Daniel wasn't the only Jidel connection at the Games!

Two of our Jidel judoka, Emma and Chris, were also selected as officials at the Commonwealth Games.

To have a Jidel athlete competing on the mat and two Jidel judoka working as officials at such a prestigious international event was a hugely proud moment for our club. It demonstrates the many different pathways that judo can offer,

whether that is competing, refereeing, officiating, coaching or supporting the sport behind the scenes.

For Jo and Anna, being there to watch the competition was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere inside the venue was incredible, with athletes and officials from across the Commonwealth coming together and showcasing the very best of judo.

🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇮🇳 🇳🇿 🇿🇦 and many more nations were represented, allowing us to watch different styles, techniques and approaches to judo from across the Commonwealth.

For Jidel Judo, it was also a wonderful reminder of where a judo journey can lead. From starting at your local club as a young judoka, to competing, officiating and representing your country at a Commonwealth Games — there really are so many opportunities within our sport.
